Road trip to Newport this fall for a spectacle of foliage, and so much more. Browse our favorites, from can't miss festivals to apple picking, seal watching, and more. Stay three nights and receive your fourth night free over select dates year round.
Harbor Cruises
What better way to take a cruise in Narragansett Bay than in that golden hour lighting? Gansett Cruises offers a variety of tours, from quiet and relaxing to more lively. Our pick? The evening cruise with a champagne toast, departing at 4:45pm. We also love to set sail from Bowen’s Wharf with Classic Cruises of Newport on Rum Runner and Madeline, or from Goat Island on Schooner Aurora. Plan your visit before sailing season is over.
Haunted History
Move through Newport's 300+ years of history, and better yet, make it spooky by visiting spots that are known to have a haunted past. Take a self-guided walk through gilded-age architecture being sure to stop by the White Horse Tavern and Carey Mansion. And, if you're wanting some company during your haunting exploration, book a lantern-led ghost tour around town.
Shopping
Steps from The Wellington, stroll Bowen's Wharf where you'll find major brands, boutiques, locally-owned shops, and galleries. It won't take long to find mementos to take home. Not to mention all the seasonal finds at KJP's flagship store.
The Sailing Museum
The Sailing Museum is an educational non-profit organization that is home to the National Sailing Hall of Fame and America's Cup Hall of Fame. Its featured STEAM concepts come alive through sailing; and visitors of all ages, non-sailors and sailors alike, will experience the magic that happens when wind and water meet.
Newport Craft Brewing & Distillery Tours
There's always something going on at Newport Craft, from trivia nights, to live music, yoga on the deck, yard games and more. Drop in and get a taste of Newport through one of their tours. Their "Beyond the Brewhouse" tour is a favorite as it gives you a glimpse of the brewing and distilling process, and a combo flight to finish off the experience.
Seal Watch and Rose Island Tours
One of our favorite ways to experience Newport in the colder season is with a visit to the Exploration Center and Aquarium in Newport. Save The Bay's seal watch tours and nature cruises begin in November—the perfect opportunity to experience local wildlife with your family.
Eat Well
Forget the world being our oyster, we prefer the world as our lobster–and Newport is the place to explore that world, we’re shore of it. After a long day at the beach, relax on the deck at Flo's Clam Shack for the best lobster roll this side of Manhattan.
Sweet Berry Farm
For a full-flavor fall experience, day trip to Sweet Berry Farm. With classic Honeycrisp to zippy Zestar apples, you'll have plenty to pick from this September, not to mention the flowers available for harvesting into a handmade bouquet (in case you've been golfing all summer). As the weather cools into October, bring the whole family out for seasonal photos and pick some pumpkins to carve and take home.
