Beaches

Public Beaches:

Eastons Beach. Memorial Boulevard. This beach is best known as First Beach, and has a wonderful view of the beautiful Cliff Walk. The carousel, playground, and aquarium are perfect for children, while the concession stand and beach houses are nearby. Parking is available and there are restaurants within walking distance.

Kings Beach. Wellington Avenue. It has a free boat ramp, but this beach is fairly small. It has a great view of the Newport Bridge. Kings Park also offers picnic tables and areas to barbeque.

Fort Adams State Beach. Located in Fort Adams State Park on Ocean Avenue. Besides tours throughout the park, this historical site offers a beautiful beach with picnic and fishing areas. Concession stand and public bathrooms are also available.

Sachuest Town Beach. Sachuset Point Road, Middletown. Known as Second Beach to locals, this is the largest beach in this area. Here you can find great surf, fine sand, showers, and a concession stand. Seasonal parking passes are available in the beginning of the summer season.

Third Beach. Third Beach Road, Middletown. This beach is known for its calm surf, which is perfect for water sports and small children. There are no public bathrooms or concession stand offered at this beach, but parking is available.

 

Newport's Private Beaches:

Gooseberry Beach. Ocean Avenue. This is a private beach club open to the public. Showers, chair rentals, and parking are available for guests. Seasonal parking passes are also available for those who can’t get enough.

Bailey's Beach. Ocean Avenue. This beach is one of the most exclusive beaches on the East Coast. This private beach club has historically been a summer getaway for rich Newport families. Tennis Courts are available to members, but there are no parking or concession stands available in this private club, just good sunbathing and chatter.

Hazard Beach. Ocean Avenue. This is a private beach which offers nearby parking. Bathhouses and a concession stand are available to those who have a membership.

Museums

International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino. Features the only professional tennis events played on grass in North America as well as the International Tennis Hall of Fame Museum, which holds the largest collection of tennis memorabilia in the world. The Newport Casino also features several facilities for special events, including cocktail parties, receptions and meetings.

Naval War College Museum. Year round, M-F 10AM-4PM, 12PM-4PM on weekends Jun-Sep. Closed holidays. For reservations call at least 24 hours in advance. Reservations and photo identification are necessary for entry onto the Naval Station.

Touro Synagogue National Historic Site. Dedicated in 1762, and serves an active congregation today. The congregation was founded in 1658 by Sephardim who fled the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal and were searching for a haven from religious persecution in the Caribbean.
